Handheld AEI Reader With Expanded Capabilites
The SmartScan Model 2400 Portable AEI Reader is a very versatile AEI tag reader. It is primarily used to verify AEI tag
data or to capture track consist by reading the AEI tags on the rail vehicles.
The two main components are a commercial Personal Data Assistant (PDA) and an AEI RF reader board along with a bat-
tery, housed in a rugged enclosure. An optional barcode reader is available.
The battery that provides power to the AEI reader electronics also provides power to the PDA, and the case protects the
PDA from mishandling and weather.
Because the PDA has wireless network capabilities (both 802.11b and Bluetooth), AEI tag data can be easily sent directly
to other computer systems. AEI data is sent in a comma delimited text file or a file containing the T94 records. Either of
these file types can be attached to an email or uploaded to an FTP server. The Model 2400 Portable AEI reader can send
AEI data files directly to up to seven email addresses in addition to an FTP server.

Transportable Readers
Transportable readers will be available in either mainline or gate configuration. The intent of the design is to provide a system that can:
1. Be installed on a temporary basis to determine if it is in the proper location.
2. Be delivered to the installation site by 2 –men in a pickup truck.
3. Be installed in 1 – working day
4. Be made permanent by filling around the trailer chassis and antenna foundation with ballast.
Power for this system can be AC with battery backup option or solar.
Communications options will be the same as for mainline and gate systems.

Transcore AP4118 AEI Tag Programmer
The AP4118 AEI Tag programmer is designed to encode data into the new AT5118 Transportation Tags. It cannot be used to encode data into the AT5110, AT5125, AT5510, AT5541 or AT5545 tags. These tags are encoded with the AP4110 AEI Tag Programmer.
The AP4118 AEI Tag Programmer also requires the AP5780 Permission Tag to encode tags. Permission tags will only be sold to organizations that have the Association of American Railroads M-1003 Quality Certification.

Transcore IP3/ATA
The TransCore handheld AEI tag reader is the basic unit sold by value added distributors for rail and rail industrial applications. This is one of two base units used in this market place today, the other being Southern Technology Applications. Intermec provides the PDA type interface device for the TransCore RF reader. This combination could also include the ability to read bar codes.
